Roblox Game Development

Real Roblox Studio. Real Lua scripting. A real published game by the end. For Grade 4 to 8.

Roblox Game Development

What is Roblox Game Development ?

A course designed to turn curiosity into real-world coding confidence.

πŸ•ΉοΈ

The Platform Millions of Kids Already Use

Roblox Studio is free, and your child probably already plays games built on it, now they'll build their own.

πŸ’»

Real Scripting, Not Drag and Drop

Lua is a genuine programming language, easier to pick up than Python but just as real, a natural next step after Scratch.

πŸš€

Published and Playable

The final project isn't a demo, it's a real game your child can publish and share with friends.

β€œMost kids have played hundreds of games. This course is where they stop consuming them and start building the ones other people play.”

What Your Child Will Build

Every project is built live in class β€” not copied from a tutorial.

Obstacle Course Challenge
Project 1

Obstacle Course Challenge

A first playable game with checkpoints and moving parts, built while learning Roblox Studio's core tools

Collect the Coins
Project 2

Collect the Coins

A scoring game using Lua scripts and a leaderboard, so points actually count and display on screen

Tower Climb
Project 3

Tower Climb

A parkour-style platforming game with rising difficulty and a respawn system

Racing Game
Project 4

Racing Game

A timed racing game with checkpoints, a countdown, and a win condition

Escape Room Adventure
Project 5

Escape Room Adventure

A puzzle-driven game with keys, locked doors, and an NPC that reacts to the player

Survival Game
Project 6

Survival Game

A game with hazards, a health system, and consequences for getting caught or hit

Final Project: Original Game
Project 7

Final Project: Original Game

An original game your child designs from scratch, combining movement, scoring, and interactivity from every earlier project

How the Course Works

A clear learning path from first concept to final project.

1
Week 1 - 2

Introduction to Roblox Studio

  • Get comfortable in Roblox Studio and build your first structures, then put it all together in an obstacle course challenge.
2
Week 3 - 4

Scripting Basics with Lua

  • Learn the basics of Lua scripting and build a working coin-collecting game complete with a leaderboard.
3
Week 5 - 6

Player Movement and Mechanics

  • Program movement, jumping, and checkpoints, then build a tower-climbing game and test it for fairness and fun.
4
Week 9 - 10

NPCs and Interactive Worlds

  • Bring a game world to life with NPCs, doors, keys, and puzzle logic, then design an escape room and survival game.
5
Week 11

Polishing, Testing, and Publishing

  • Playtest with classmates, debug common scripting errors, and publish a finished game to Roblox.
6
Week 12

Final Project and Showcase

  • Plan an original game concept, build it independently, and present the finished project to the class.

Questions Parents Ask

This is YCA's course for children who want to move from playing games to building them, designed for Grade 4 to 8. Your child learns Roblox Studio and real Lua scripting, building toward a final original game they design, publish, and share.
No, though it helps. Lua's syntax is simpler than Python's, and many children move into this course directly after Scratch, since the same logical thinking, sequencing and event-based patterns carry over into Lua scripting.
Roblox Studio uses genuine programming with Lua, a real scripting language used in professional game development. Your child isn't just playing Roblox, they're learning to build inside it, covering variables, events, and conditionals along the way.
Yes. The final project is designed to be published on Roblox, so your child gets a real, shareable game rather than a file that stays on one computer.
A laptop or desktop with a stable internet connection. Roblox Studio does not run on Chromebooks, so a Windows or Mac laptop is needed for the in-person or online sessions.
Many students move into App Development for Kids to apply the same logic to mobile apps, or into AI for Kids to add intelligent behavior to the kinds of games and characters they built here.
